The Unicoi County Commission’s Building Committee Has Decided To Conduct A Study Of A Water Leak At The County Jail To See How The Leakage Could Affect Those Who Must Work Around It. The County’s Building And Grounds Committee Opted To Hire Engineering Firm Tysinger, Hampton And Partners To Conduct That Study Before Taking Any Action To Address The Problem. The Estimated Cost Will Be 36-Hundred Dollars Which Will Be Paid For With Money From The Mayor’s Office’s And Sheriff’s Department’s Building And Grounds Budgets.

Two People Are Behind Bars After Shots Were Exchanged With A Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Following An Early Morning Police Chase. 21 Year Old Derrick Dakota Kitzmiller Of Gray Is Charged With Attempted Second Degree Murder, Driving On A Suspended License, Felony Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, And Speeding. The Chase Began About Two Am Thursday Morning When A Driver Called The THP Dispatch And Reported Being Tailgated By A Vehicle. Trooper Jeff Appleba Attempted To Stop Kitzmiller’s Vehicle. The Chase Ended With A Single Vehicle Crash Near Tri Cities Baptist Church On Hog Hollow Road In Gray. A Passenger In The Vehicle, 35 Year Old Jennifer Russel Of Bristol, Is Charged With Altering A Vehicle Title. Additonal Charges Are Expected To Be Filed Against The Two Suspects.

A Kingsport House Cleaner Has Been Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Items From A City Residence. Kingsport Police Received A Report Of A Theft Of More Than 5-Thousand Dollars In Jewelery From A Home On Millington Road. Sarah Ann Crawford Is Charged With Theft Over 1-Thousand Dollars. Crawford Was Transported To The Sullivan County Jail. She Is Facing Similar Charges In Washington County Tennessee. A Court Date Is Pending.

The City Of Kingsport Will Be Reducing The Size Of A Water Line Project Into Hawkins County. Initially The Project Was Proposed To Serve 180 Homes In The Beech Creek Community South Of Rogersville. The City Decided Not To Accept A One Million Dollar Rural Development Grant From The U.S. Department Of Agriculture To Fund The Work. Instead, The City Agreed To Move Forward On The Project Using The 500-Thousand Dollars In Community Development Block Grant Money, Which Will Allow 40 To 45 Homes To Be Connected On Beech Creek Road. Hawkins County Mayor Melville Bailey Said By Extending A Water Line Into Beech Creek, This Opens The Door For Future Expansions If Funding Becomes Available Again.

He Arrived At The U.S. Capitol With Two Fellow Virginia Democrats, Sens. Jim Webb And Mark Warner. Kaine Defeated Republican George Allen In November For The Seat Being Vacated By Webb.

A Washington County Tennessee Man Accused Of Killing And Raping His Mother Is Set To Go On Trial In June If A Plea Deal Can’t Be Reached. Codey Miller Is Also Accused Of Dumping His Mother’s Body In A Garbage Can Outside Her Johnson City Apartment In May 2009. Miller Is Charged With First Degree Murder In The Death Of Sherry Cooper. Miller Has Maintained His Innocence From The Beginning. A Trial Date Is Set For June 3rd.

The American Taxpayer Relief Act Which Became Law This Week Extends The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program Through January 1st, 2014. Its A Federally-Funded Program Providing Jobless Benefits To Approximately 30-Thousand Tennesseeans Who Have Exhausted The First 26 Weeks Of The The Maximum State Benefits. The Legislation Only Extends The Deadline To Receive Existing Federal Benefits And Does Not Add Additional Weeks. Tennessee Claimants Are Currently Allowed A Maximum Of 26 Weeks Of State Benefits And An Additional 37 Weeks Of Federal Benefits.

Mount Carmel Has A New Police Chief. Newly Elected Mayor Larry Frost Promoted Assistant Police Chief Mike Campbell To Chief And Made Current Police Chief Jeff Jackson, Patrolman. Jackson Had Been In Charge Of The Police Department For 13 Years. Frost Also Appointed Vice Mayor Paul Hale As The Public Safety Director, Also A Position Previously Held By Jackson. Frost Would Only Say They Felt They Needed To Go In A Different Direction And Make Some Departmental Changes.

Some Skeletal Remains Have Been Found In Carter County And Authorities Are Treating The Case As A Homicide. Sheriff Chris Mathes Said Survey Crews From A Private Company Found The Human Skeletal Remains Off Gap Creek Road. They Will Be Sent To The University Of Tennessee In Knoxville For An Autopsy. Investigators Aren’t Sure How Long The Remains Have Been At The Location. A Wallet Was Reportedly Found Near The Body But The Sheriff Isn’t For Sure It Belongs To The Deceased. More Details Are Expected To Be Released Later.
