Elizabethton Leaders Have Chosen Three Of Six Applicants For Liquor Stores In The City. Voters Decided This Past November To Allow For Liquor Stores In The City Limits. The Council Voted To Determine Which Applicants Best Met The Criteria For The City. The Three Will Get A Certificate Monday, The State Will Then Have 45 Days To Either Accept Or Reject The Owners. If Approved, They Can Start Selling Alcohol Anytime. The Three Locations Will Be Spread Across The City.

Plans To Expand The Kingsport Town Center Are Moving Forward. Marquee Cinemas Are Officially Closed And Will Be Moving Out To Make Room For Frank Theaters To Move In. That Company Will Make Minor Renovations And Resume Operations In The Exiting Location During The Construction Phase Of The Expansion. That Project Includes Added Space For An Imax Theater.

The Town Of Unicoi Is Hopeful A New Visitors Center Will Be Open To The Public Soon. Town Recorder Larry Rea Said The New Visitors Center Is Taking Shape And While A New Opening Has Not Been Set, Town Officials Are Hoping The Center Could Open Sometime This Month. Offices For Parks And Recreation, Public Relations And Municipal Court Will Be Housed In The New Facility, Which Is Located Directly Off Exit 32 At The End Of Unicoi Village Place.

Sullivan County School Officials Are Going To Consider Hiring A New Full-Time Security Position For The School System In Addition To Any Existing Or Added School Resource Officers. Director Of Schools Jubal Yennie Made The Proposal For The Position. The Person Hired For The Job Would Make Sure School System Employees Are Trained In Security As Well As Act As A Liaison With The Sheriff’s Office.

Wise County Virginia Is Gearing Up For A 1.4 Million Dollar Shortfall In Coal Severance Taxes This Fiscal Year. County Finance Administrator David Cox Said He Expects An Even High Decrease, Upwards Of 2-Million Dollars Next Fiscal Year. He Warned County Leaders That At Least A 5-Percent Reduction In Spending Will Be Needed Across The Board To Remedy The Loss In Funding.
