A northeast Tennessee lawmaker has cast the deciding vote against a proposal to loosen wine sale laws in Tennessee. Matthew Hill, a Jonesborough republican cast the vote that resulted in the proposal failing by a single vote in a House committee. However, supporters hope they can revive it. Three Lime-Yellow Help Trucks Will Patrol The Area And Assist With Any Incidents In An Effort To Keep Traffic Moving. TDOT Help Truck Operators Are Trained Emergency Medical Responders. A Hawkins County City Official Is Among 175 Municipal Finance Officers In The State That Have Completed Certification Requirements. Church Hill City Recorder Mark Sandidge Met The Requirements Of A Program That Has Been Completed By 216 Finance Officer, City Recorders, City Managers, And Mayors In Tennessee. These Individuals Completed A Two-Year Program That Consisted Of Eleven Courses Covering Eight Different Topics.

The City Of Johnson City Has Received A Grant For A Crime Reduction Project. An 800-Thousand Targeted Community Crime Reduction Project Grant From The Office Of Criminal Justice Programs To Fund Efforts To Reduce Crimes Related To Alcohol And Drug Abuse In Targeted Neighborhoods. Using Criminal Analysis And Local Surveys, The Mountain Home And Downtown Areas Were Identified As The Targets For This Project. Surveys Revealed The Greatest Concerns Of Residents And Business Owners Revolved Around Drugs, Alcohol, Litter, And Prostitution

While Johnson City saw a slight decline in retail sales, Bristol and Kingsport are on the up and up. That according to the 4th Quarter Tri Cities Economic Report as compiled by East Tennessee State University. During the 4th Quarter Bristol reported its 7th consecutive growth – increasing sales by 7.6%. Kingsport saw a 3% increase, while sales in Johnson City fell by .7%. Statewide, retail sales increased by .7% and 2.5% in the United States.

Johnson City Officials Say A Section Of King Springs Road, Previously Closed After Half Of The Roadway Washed Away In January, Will Likely Remain Closed For The Next Three Months. Public Works Director Phil Pindzola Explained The City Shut Down Part Of The Road Down After It Was Deemed Unsafe Because Recent Flooding Had Eroded The Banks Of Sinking Cree And Taken Some Of The Road With It. He Added The City Has Hired A Consultant To Help Make Recommendations As To How To Move Forward.

The Washington County Virginia Board of Supervisors is joining opponents of The Crooked Road’s bid to become a National Heritage Area. Board members voted to draft a resolution of nonsupport. Crooked Road officials say the designation would provide the music heritage trail’s 19-county region with federal funding, more recognition and marketing tools. Washington County Supervisor Bill Gibson says federal strings come with federal dollars. Officials in Russell, Smythe, and Wythe counties also oppose the designation.
