The Feds And Local Police Have Charged 69 Suspects From Northeast Tennessee And Southwest Virginia With Their Involvement In A Check Fraud Scam. Investigators Said They Fraudulently Collected About 100-Thousand Dollars In Cash In The Fake Checks Scheme. According To U.S. Attorney Timothy Heaphy, The Case Began In December From An Investigation At The Walmart At Exit 7. An Excessive Amount Of Checks For Multiple Individuals In A Single Day Sent Up A Red Flag To Authorities. 38 Of Those Facing Charges Reside In Kingsport. So Far, Around 50 Suspects Are In Custody. Authorities Believe The Final 19 People Will Be Apprehended Soon.
