  • Blog #21 January 2018

Happy 2018!  I have to say the year has already been a mixed bag for me…mostly nutty!  It started with having to drive to Memphis to pick up my car.  My car that I had left there the weekend before, Christmas Eve that is, because it broke down and I ended up having to rent a car to get back home for the holiday.  But since I had to drive back to Memphis I thought I’d make the most of it ..again,  Read More »
  • Blog #20 10/2017 Colorado!

I had not been back to Colorado Springs since my oldest son graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 2014…and this time I was not attending Parents Weekend but rather I was enjoying “Ol Friends Weekend”.  Now to clarify..I’ve never lived in Cololrado but for some reason many of my friends ended up living there and in the same area, Colorado Springs.  So after 20 + years of not seeing many of my dear high school and college buddies we decided now was a good time to reunite…we’ve had class reunions before but we wanted something …Read More »
  • Blog 8/17/17

Recently I simple recited the poem “Invictus” for my blog entry without any commentary.  I did this because it is my favorite poem as I am sure it is for so many since it seems to be popular.  It is a strong and inspirational poem for me and I hope you enjoyed it.  The first time I really paid attention to the poem was when my oldest son had a copy of it and I read it,  Read More »

  • Invictus

Invictus by William Ernest Henley Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master …Read More »
  • Blog #16-Spring 2017

Spring is in bloom, not quite full bloom but it’s getting there….I’m just thrilled we are on our way to warm, colorful weather. That is what I miss during winter….color! Winter can be pretty dreary, but spring….well that’s another thing…yes, we may have a lot of rain but with that comes the COLOR! The green grass, purple, pink, yellow, you name it flowers and the trees and all their glory, whether it be a cherry tree, dogwood or crepe myrtle….they offer so much for the starving eye. IT also makes for a happy co-worker, I’m talking my partner …Read More »

Is it 2017 already? Wow, okay 2016 went by fast. It was a good year...My sons continue to do well and are healthy and kind. I am still working at WTFM and appreciate my co-workers very much. How lucky am I to work with people that actually like one another and do what they can to help each other out...I do believe that is the best part of my job...the people. I do not take for granted that the staff at Holston Valley Broadcasting is exceptionally kind and thoughtful and for that I am grateful for this opportunity!Read More »

Can it be?! Thanksgiving is already upon us...I am thrilled for more reasons than just turkey, although that is a good reason all by itself:) I get to be with family, and when I say that I mean family I don't get to see everyday. Most of my relatives live in Texas and so the holidays mean travel and visiting loved ones. I will get to see my son that now lives in Arkansas, my son who is away at college and my well as many others.... Thanksgiving truly is a time of Thanks for me and …Read More »
  • Blog #13- What a game!

WOW....I think the jaw dropping moment of the year will have to be the one that took place at the end of the UT vs GA game last week! I also think that will probably go down in history as one of the most amazing ones! Unbelievable! I was actually on an airplane with one of my sons coming home from a visit to my brothers in Las Vegas when the game was going on. The passenger sitting next to Rhys and I was a Georgia fan and she was trying desperately to stream the game on her …Read More »
  • Blog #12- Downtown changes

It's August and it has been a hot summer, in fact one of the hottest summers I can remember in Kingsport. I'm not complaining I am simply stating an observation. I like the warmth, I will take summer over the cold winter any day. But I could use a little change, maybe a cooling onto the 80's for a bit...after all we have had temperatures in the 90's for what seems like most of the summer, I heard that we have had over 40 days in the 90' that is hot for these parts! Maybe I just need …Read More »
  • Blog #11- Next Big Adventure!

Okay, I have figured out my next big adventure! I would like to walk part of the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Have you seen the movie "The Way" starring Martin Sheen and produced and directed by his son Emilio Estevez? If not, I highly recommend it. "The Way" is an actual thing, it refers to The Way of St. James, a trail that begins on the Spain/ France border and ends at the south of Spain coast. It is a pilgrimage that has been in existence continuously since St. James was carried and buried via this trek …Read More »
  • Blog #10- What’s new?

It's been a while since I've been I'll just share a little info regarding what's been going on in my life. First of all...I recently traveled to Texas to attend my oldest son's flight training graduation. This was a special time because Alex has been training extensively in the T-6 and T-38 to prepare for his career as a United States Air Force Pilot. He graduated and will now be transferred to Barksdale AFB where he will begin intensive training in the B-52. I am proud of my son for many reasons but most recently because of …Read More »
  • Blog #9- Radiothon 2016

Another successful year in the books! Radiothon 2016 was my first one to participate in and what a neat experience for me. WTFM has been hosting the radiothon for the Niswonger Children's Hospital in Johnson City for 4 years now and it only improves with age! The radiothon is a fundraiser for the hospital and every year there is a different focus as to what the money raised will go towards and this year it will go to creating a special unit for the babies with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, (NAS ) in other words, babies born addicted to …Read More »
  • Blog #8- Yay Peyton Manning…oh and all the Broncos!

Superbowl L ......or as it is referred to now...Superbowl 50! What a great game....I say that because the team I was rooting for won....not because it was necessarily a well played game for the offense. It was a defensively dominated played game and that was fun to watch and all but I am mostly thrilled that Peyton gets to go into retirement on a great note. That is if he is indeed retiring ....he hasn't officially announced that but the general consensus is thinking that is the case...I guess we will see soon enough. The Superbowl is such …Read More »
  • Blog #7 Baby it’s cold outside!

Baby it's cold outside indeed! Wow, a whopping 14 right now...brrrrrr! If only the darn wind would stop blowing it wouldn't be as cutting! But even though it is frigid and yes I know it's Winter...I need to accept this....I'll tell you what isn't easy to accept.... the fact that so many legends are leaving us now too....I can accept the cold hard temperatures more than I can accept the cold hard fact that David Bowie, Alan Rickman and now Glenn Frey have left us all within a couple of weeks. Glenn Frey and the Eagles were my …Read More »
  • Blog #6 End of the year

As I reflect on the end of the year 2015, I realized that we are creatures who never cease at being amazed at how fast time flies and how short life actually is...I hear this phrase often and no matter how many times I hear it I am constantly struck by the reality of it. Life is indeed short and I for one need to stop, smell the roses and appreciate each and every day. This year flew by and I look back and find that I spent much of it stressing over things I had no control …Read More »

I am the second half of the Wake Up Crew with Steve and you have undoubtedly ascertained, the "Lynda" of said duo. I am the newbie here at the station and I feel grateful to have this opportunity. The people here at the station have been more that patient and kind to me and the atmosphere is one of thoughtfulness yet professional. …Read More »
