Here is the latest Tennessee sports from The AP
ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Hawks could decide on an exotic pick
in tonight's draft --- Yi (Ee) Jianlian (TEE-an-LEE-an), a
seven-foot forward from China. The Hawks have the third pick---one
ahead of Memphis---so Atlanta's selection will impact who plays for
the Grizzlies next season.
GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) - The Great Smoky Mountains National Park
wants to permanently open most of its streams to fishing for brook
trout. There's been a 30-year ban on such fishing. Park officials
have now determined that recreational fishing had no major impact
on the brookies' population in the big park.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The late Bobby Hamilton will be honored
this weekend in Memphis during the Craftsman Truck race. Saturday
has been designated Bobby Hamilton Day at Memphis Motorplex Park. A
street leading to the grandstands has been named in his memory.
Hamilton, former truck series champion, died of cancer earlier this
year.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Union University has captured the
TranSouth Athletic Conference All-Sports Trophy for the fourth
straight season. Trevecca Nazarene finished second for the third
consecutive time. Following in order were Martin Methodist,
Freed-Hardeman, Cumberland, Bethel, Lambuth, Lyon, Crichton,
Mid-Continent and Blue Mountain.
