Shabby Chic Studios!

May 29th, 2008

Yesterday was our first family portrait session with Marsha Erwin at Shabby Chic Studios.

My husband was a great sport as he held our daughter and son and posed for picture after picture. Andy is not a big fan of posing for pictures so I was pleased to watch him as he really did something he wasn’t thrilled to do for the sake of making me happy.

Marsha made it very comfortable and her genuine concern for Andy and the kids to just BE made the evening very enjoyable. She has a unique quality to just kind of make you feel like we were alone interacting as a family and somehow it was caught on film. She is very talented and I can’t wait to share the pictures with you. I will have them posted here soon so check back.

Watching my husband hold our 10 week old daughter and interact with our 3 year old son seemed surreal as all I have really ever wanted was my own little family and finally the reality of all the waiting and wishing had come to be right before my eyes. My family………two kids and my husband….Our Story…..the four of us bonded together CAPTURED by a true artist for me to admire on film forever.

Marsha did a wonderful job of capturing the feeling of a relaxed fun family portrait for us! Can’t Wait to share with you!

God Bless!

I’m Raising a Child Not Grass

May 28th, 2008

I remember a lesson taught to me by my parents many, many years ago.  It is a lesson I put into use on a weekly basis.  Drift back in time with me to my boyhood and see if You agree with me about a Lesson learned.

It’s 1970 and Our neighbor is a “Freak” about his lawn, it is always “Perfect”, The envy of any golf course grounds crew.  His yard was so nice that for a long time I convinced my friends that it really wasn’t grass, it was Carpet, Hey I had them goin’ for a few years on that one.  Now, go over one house and let’s look at the Mann’s lawn…….No where near as perfect as Mr. Golf Course next door,  in fact Our back yard was a (1.)Football field (2.)Baseball field (3.)Basketball court (4.) Soccer field and (5.)A camp ground.

Our front yard looked much better, not because it was off limits to us, but because that backyard was just “Our Perfect Place”.   If You looked at our backyard you would see that right in the middle, there was very little grass, it was more like a well worn path of dirt and on that path of dirt is where I made some of my most spectacular moves, the greatest moves ever made in Backyard Football History!!!   The Most Graceful Moves ever made in Backyard Basketball History……..and so on as the story goes.

Now one evening  while my friends Pasquallie, Hody, Roddy and Cleever (yes those are there real names, OK, not there real real names, but the names they were known by in our neighborhood) We  were camping out (in a tent made by my Mom, which was a few old sheets thrown over the clothes line and staked into that Beautiful Backyard Lawn of ours)  and overheard a conversation my parents were having with ” Mr. Golf Course Perfect Lawn”.

He was asking my Mom and Dad about their reasons for letting our backyard look like an old ball field.  It seemed to bother him that our yard wasn’t as pristene as his.   This is where I learned that Lesson I was telling You about earlier in this Novel,  My parents answer to him was ” Were raising children Not Grass”.    That has stuck with me for a lifetime.  Happy Kids and an ugly backyard was a fair trade off in my parents eyes, though to us kids there was nothing ugly about our “Backyard Yankee Stadium”, it was Perfect to us and  My Parents knew that.

So now I’m going to Prove to everyone that I took that little lesson to heart.

My Little Niece Leslie loves to drive the Lawn Tractor, so while I was Mowing the other day I noticed her waving to me from the porch, she wanted to drive the mower more than anything that day.   Now I was busy keeping that Mower in a perfect straight line so that the Lawn would Look so Nice when I was finished and then it dawned on me,  “Steve, You are Not Mr. Perfect Lawn”…..”This is Not a Golf Course”…..”You are raising a Child, Not Grass”,,, Let that Little Girl Mow the Lawn with You!!!!!    Remembering what was taught to me many years ago…..Leslie and I had the most fun any Human’s could ever have,  just riding and mowing in Circles, Figure 8’s and any other way she wanted to steer that tractor.  So if You happen to drive by my house and notice that my front lawn is not “Golf Course Like”…..don’t feel bad for me, “I know it may not look perfect to You, but I’m raising a Happy Kid and her and her Uncle Steve are having a Blast.”   by the way Leslie might be a NASCAR star someday, she’s a real Driver.

Back to Play!

May 14th, 2008

After many weeks of maternity leave I am now back on the air. I can’t really say back at work, because this is not work for me, but play. Steve Mann and I have such a fun job and really do like each other so it never seems like work is what we are doing each morning.

Drew is having a tough time not having me there in the mornings. What a treat for me to see his little face right when he woke up. Every morning Drew asked me if I had to go to work the next day! He loves being a big brother….no joke. He is in love with Waverly and tells her every day how beautiful she is and how he will always protect her from Tornadoes and Skunks…. Yes….Tornadoes..and Skunks..that is what he is obsessing over now. Don’t ask me…….He says he will take his golf club and get this Skunk and Tornado. Out of the mouths of Babes I guess!!

Waverly is now smiling and it is soo rewarding! I never thought I could love any other child as much or equal to Drew but Waverly has proved me wrong. She is OUR LITTLE PEARL. Her nickname is Pearl. The rarest jewel! In the months to come I will explain why I call her that and why she is so rare and just a special little baby!

It feels great to be back at PLAY and having fun with Steve! Thanks for having us on and sharing in the JOY of our lives!

Love,

Taylor

CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE, Hope Not….

May 10th, 2008

While I was cleaning out some files on my computer, I came across these photo’s that my friend Paul had sent me back in 05′.  They say a Picture is worth a thousand words,  in this case a picture is worth a thousand chill bumps running down my spine.

I don’t know what this Cat was looking for, but I’d be Extremely happy that it was a snowy day and therefore the door wasn’t open.

THE EYES HAVE IT

Next Picture Makes it a little clearer what we’re dealing with….

AND THIS PICTURE GIVES ME THE CHILLS……

GUESS THE KITTY JUST STOPPED BY TO SAY HI.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place?

May 6th, 2008

Many thanks to Roger and Susan at Appalachian Caverns in Blountville, TN.

I had a marvelous time exploring the caverns on “The Wild Tour”.

You can do the same, just call and set up a tour (423) 323-2337

or visit their website  http://appacaverns.com/

You don’t have to get into the tight spots like I did, they also offer Walking Tours.  It’s a chance to see God’s Awesome Creation from 300 ft underground.

I see light at the end of the tunnel……a voice is telling me….Go To The Light.

FREE at last…….

Sad Day for Fans of American Hot Rod

February 28th, 2008

Boyd Coddington of TLC’s American Hot Rod Series passed away Wednesday Morning 2/27/08.   Boyd was only 63 years old and his death comes as a shock to all.  While I didn’t personally know Boyd, I have always admired his work.  Boyd Coddington was more than just a Car Builder, He was an inspiration to Hot Rodders all over the World.

Boyd earned many awards including seven wins for America’s Most Beautiful Roadsters, the prestigious Riddler Award and Builder of the Year at the Grand National Roadster Show.

He also holds the distinction of designing the First and Only Hot Rod in The Smithsonian Museum of American History, and the first to be on the cover of Smithsonian magazine.
