Is it 2017 already?  Wow, okay 2016 went by fast.  It was a good year...My sons continue to do well and are healthy and kind.  I am still working at WTFM and appreciate my co-workers very much.  How lucky am I to work with people that actually like one another and do what they can to help each other out...I do believe that is the best part of my job...the people.  I do not take for granted that the staff at Holston Valley Broadcasting is exceptionally kind and thoughtful and for that I am grateful for this opportunity! I feel blessed to have had this job and I find each other and to add such an enriching aspect to my life, thank you co-wo's for being a positive force in my life and becoming friends in the process.  I am looking forward to growing even more in my job as every day I learn more about the radio biz....there is so much to learn and I feel like I have only scratched the surface, thank goodness for patient co-workers! Lol...whew, I mean it.    2017 will also mark milestones for my boys.. Alex will complete C-130J training in February and then start his career doing flight missions  for the Air Force, he is looking forward to flying the world and doing what he needs to for our country.  Max will graduate in May from UT and begin his career in business as a step towards beginning his MBA eventually.  Rhys is moving to Nevada and starting a business with his Aunt Kim.  I missed him greatly when he went to school in Texas and even though I will miss my little buddy in Nevada I am glad he is itching to get out on his own and begin this new adventure with his Aunt that he adores. I pray they achieve their goal in this new venture and that Rhys is glad he made this leap.  As for me....I will continue my journey with WTFM and my awesome co-host Steve Mann...I can't believe I got so lucky with him...he makes work a blast, he is the funniest, wittiest person I have ever met and I love coming to hang out with him and call it work, Lol.   Of course I hope to meet the other goals I set for myself every year...but....well....hmmmm I usually kinda....stray away from....BUT...I still want to lose weight, get into shape, exercise more, eat less, read more, volunteer more, be a better mom, daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor, friend, person and put others first. I'll let you know if any of those goals are met...I hope the thinking of others more is and all the other ones regarding others....but boy I sure would also like to get back into those skinny jeans!  Happy New Year and May God bless each and every one of you!  Have a great rest of the year....

Can it be?! Thanksgiving is already upon us...I am thrilled for more reasons than just turkey, although that is a good reason all by itself:)  I get to be with family, and when I say that I mean family I don't get to see everyday.  Most of my relatives live in Texas and so the holidays mean travel and visiting loved ones.  I will get to see my son that now lives in Arkansas, my son who is away at college and my parents...as well as many others.... Thanksgiving truly is a time of Thanks for me and giving of love to my dear ones.  It will go by way to fast...it will be fast and furious but sweet and splendid as well.  Another reason I love Thanksgiving....well it means that Christmas is soon behind...and I will get to see many loved ones all over again..not as many but at least all my sons will be in town and for this I am thankful.  I love the holidays and to me Thanksgiving and Christmas are all part of the same thing...remembering how blessed we are and to keep that in the forefront.  I'm looking forward to sharing this special time with those I love most in this world and I will take the time to let them know how thankful I am to have them in my life. We should all slow down a bit and remember that life is short and to tell those we care about how we feel.  With the negativity that has been spewing all over the media lately with the recent election we need to remember we still live in a great country with freedoms to voice our opinions.  Lets take this time to focus on the good and appreciate what we do have instead of what we don't and give thanks for the opportunities and the loved ones in our lives. Reflect on the blessings and continue to pray for our future and embrace the moment ....Just....Be Thankful.

Blog #13- What a game!

WOW....I think the jaw dropping moment of the year will have to be the one that took place at the end of the UT vs GA  game last week!  I also think that will probably go down in history as one of the most amazing ones!  Unbelievable!  I was actually on an airplane with one of my sons coming home from a visit to my brothers in Las Vegas when the game was going on.  The passenger sitting next to Rhys and I was a Georgia fan and she was trying desperately to stream the game on her laptop.  I told her we were Tennessee fans and the friendly feud began!  She could not stream the live action on her computer but we were able to access CBS and they had a line that would light up black or orange depending on who had the ball...we also were able to access tweets that were keeping us pretty well informed of the play by play action.  I felt like I was there to some degree and having this friendly feud made the flight all the more enjoyable.  When Georgia made their last touchdown and we only had about 10 seconds left on the clock I felt defeated and told my son...there is no way we could make a touchdown with that amount of time...but of course like everyone else I always have a smidgen of hope no matter what.   And as probably everyone on Earth probably knows by now...we DID make a touchdown in 10 seconds......or less.  As soon as we landed in Atlanta, Rhys and I went to a sports grill in the airport to see highlights of the game and were not disappointed! Of course the stations were showing the heart stopping last play that gave the Vols the incredible win!  WOW! Now that is what makes football so darn exciting ...plays like that!  Now that my and hopefully most of the Tennessee fans heart has began beating at an appropriate and healthy beat...we have another game in a few days to get us going again, in fact the next two games are going to be nail biters...A&M and Alabama...both which are ranked high...of course Alabama is number one so yeah...if we can beat them....my oh my...that will be the most delicious icing on the cake!   Go Big Orange!  I'm excited but to tell you the truth...I really don't think I can take to many more games like that....exhausting ....but hey if that's what it takes then by golly I'll wear myself out for the Vols!

Blog #12- Downtown changes
Posted by Lynda on 8/17/2016 11:16:00 AM.
It's August and it has been a hot summer, in fact one of the hottest summers I can remember in Kingsport.  I'm not complaining I am simply stating an observation.  I like the warmth, I will take summer over the cold winter any day.  But I could use a little change, maybe a cooling onto the 80's for a bit...after all we have had temperatures in the 90's for what seems like most of the summer, I heard that we have had over 40 days in the 90's...wow... that is hot for these parts!  Maybe I just need a change, maybe the consistency of heat is making me restless....I'm not sure but I don't mind change, I know many people have a hard time with it but not I. I welcome change...of course positive change that is...let me make that clear, negative change...ummmm no!   One change I am not digging is the closing downtown of Style Boutique and Fermented Wine Bar.  I love those two places and will miss them. Friends of mine owns them and they are simply desiring a change in lifestyle, they want to be more flexible and when you own a couple of businesses it is hard to be flexible.  I live and work downtown so when something closes it bums me out, I like the activity and the commerce that downtown business brings, its a good energy and I thrive on it. I do hope with this change comes a couple of good businesses to take the places of the two merchants that I will dearly miss.  My fingers are crossed.  Change is good but as I said before as long as it is positive and not negative...so I am open to a positive replacement because right now the closings are a negative to me and that's not my vibe! I wish The owners of Fermented and Style, the Gunn's, all the best and I hope the future holds all sorts of possibilities for them that they can now enjoy more freely.  I will miss them but on a positive note...Style is having a clearance sale to clear out the inventory so you can bet your bottom dollar I will be frequenting them up until the last day to hopefully get some nice deals on items I have been desiring but could not justify financially..... Change can be good, awesome as a matter of fact and even more so if I can buy some neat things to keep my loft "fresh" with quality goods at a very good price....so even though I am sad...I will do my best to make a positive out of this new change.....sound good?

Blog #11- Next Big Adventure!
Posted by Lynda on 6/17/2016 9:50:00 AM.
Okay, I have figured out my next big adventure!  I would like to walk part of the Camino de Santiago in Spain.   Have you seen the movie "The Way" starring Martin Sheen and produced and directed by his son Emilio Estevez? If not, I highly recommend it.

"The Way" is an actual thing, it refers to The Way of St. James, a trail that begins on the Spain/ France border and ends at the south of Spain coast.  It is a pilgrimage that has been in existence continuously since St. James was carried and buried via this trek many years ago.  Actually I have a son doing this very adventure as I write this.  My youngest son is with a friend, and they decided after watching and being inspired by the movie, to achieve this goal themselves.  They have given themselves almost two months to walk 500 miles and soak in this experience.  I am hoping along the way they do a lot of soul searching and reflection regarding how they would like to direct the rest of their lives.  I am thankful that my son is searching for his direction in this positive manner and I hope it works for him.  I mentioned wanting to do this myself to a couple of friends and they are all in!  We would not however be able to take the time off that my son has but we are hoping to dedicate maybe 10 days to 2 weeks on the trail.  Apparently many "pilgrims" return each year to do a little more of the trail, as many people, like myself, cannot take a large chunk of time off at once.  I am getting excited at the idea of doing something totally different than what I'm used to.  The scenery in the movie and from the photographs my son has sent me are absolutely lovely!

It is nice to set a new goal and adventure when it has been quite a while since I have done so.  I hope my friends and I actually do this and not just talk about it...I'll keep you informed.  In the meantime, check out the movie!  I watched it on Netflix and everyone I have watched it with enjoys it!

Until next time....have a great weekend!
